Facebook's new privacy policies invite lots of criticism

The world's largest social network Facebook amended its privacy polices so that users logging on its website approval to having their information public by default. The move has aggravated criticism from user of different kinds.

This means casual users or those who don't have the time to read the items will have their personal in sequence discovered and taken benefit of without being conscious of the reality. On the other hand, those who identify the "trap" and desire to keep their details secret and have to go through a series of complex options to do so, and the process is so to cost a lot time. The new policies deserved disapproval of the company from privacy groups, government officials and some of its users.

European group of data protection authorities criticized to Facebook in a letter that changes in the company's privacy items have potentially changed the evasion settings on its social networking platform to the disadvantage of a user.

U.S. lawmakers have been influencing the Federal Trade Commission to take action concerning social networking websites' privacy controls. There are always trade-offs between offering inclusive and precise coarse controls and providing simple tools that may be expansive and rounded.

In addition, even if a user has completed all the privacy settings, then also there remains a hole and Facebook can plow his/her personal details out and make it public. A newly added feature called community pages can automatically link personal data, like hometown or university, to topic pages for that town or university. The only way to get rid of those details from those pages is to delete personal data from Facebook.

Do you know? Facebook has now 400 million registered users, half of them logging on to its website every day. So what to do? You can always say so long to Facebook, of course. Or you can select to continue with the website and simply be watchful about protecting your privacy. It isn't easy, but it can be done.
